Kugluktuk, formerly known as Coppermine, is located on the banks of the Coppermine River and along the Coronation Gulf. Kugluktuk is the westernmost community in the territory of Nunavut.

In the summer, residents and tourists travel by canoe or raft along the popular route up the Coppermine River to the scenic “Bloody Falls Territorial Historic Park”. Many other fantastic outdoor activities including hiking, fishing, hunting, kayaking and photography are common to Kugluktuk. A variety of wildlife can be seen in the area, including grizzly bears, moose and wolverines, in addition to tundra wildlife, such as muskoxen, caribou, foxes and wolves.

Life in Kugluktuk relies mainly on traditional hunting and fishing for food and clothes for its families. The future growth of Kugluktuk relies on the mining economy, as well as government and tourism sectors.
